How to Customize Microsoft Word Features
Millions of people are using Microsoft Word to aid them in their daily activities. Microsoft Word has found its niche not only in business but also in schooling and in other fields that involve publications.
Many people use Microsoft Word because of its user-friendly interface and good basic features. But still, most people are confused with most of the icons and scroll down tabs of the program. This article tries to give some tips on how the features of the Microsoft Word can be utilized and how these features can be customized.
Viewing
Let’s start with the viewing functions found in Microsoft Word. When one drags his mouse to the upper portion of the program window, he will find several tabs which can be scrolled down. One of those tabs is entitled “View” which can also be accessed by pressing ALT+ V (meaning one should press the ALT button and the letter V). When the View tab is accessed, it will present several ways of viewing the word document, the “Normal” view, the “print layout” and the “print” layout. There are not much differences between these options but one can use them to customize how they would want to view their document.
Under the viewing tab, one can also zoom his document to whatever size that he likes. He can do this by clicking the “zoom” tab and choose what percentage he would want to zoom into his documents.
Toolbars
Knowing how to customize the toolbars in Microsoft Word is one of the basic things one has to get used to, to be able to maximize the features of the program. To customize the toolbars, one can again click ALT+V and scroll down to the “toolbars” section, he will be given 20 toolbars which he can activate or deactivate. Most of the time, the “standard,” formatting” and the “tables and borders” toolbars are the ones which are used most often in doing basic Microsoft Word documents.
Font
Customizing the fonts is important to a lot of people. Many people would want to experiment with the different fonts and the different effects that they can do with the different fonts. In customizing the fonts, one can use the “formatting” toolbar. When this toolbar is activated, it will display several boxes which can be used for customizing the fonts. There’s a box that will provide the different fonts that are available and another box will allow the user to choose a size for the fonts. One can also choose different effects such as bold (CTRL + B), italics (CTRL + I) and underline (CRTL + U).
Under the “Format” tab, one can further customize the fonts and give them more detailed effects such as strikethrough, subscript or superscript.
Tools
There are many other tools that can be used in Microsoft Word. Under the “Tools” tab, which can also be accessed by pressing ALT + T, one can use the different cool tools that are available in Microsoft Word such as the spelling checker, the word counter and the auto summarize feature.
There are a lot of different ways to customize Microsoft Word. All it needs is a little enthusiasm and a lot of curiosity. One can click any thing that he would want to in Microsoft Word and if he doesn’t like what happens, he can always press CTRL + Z to retract the last action. Enjoy!
