Using Microsoft Word Templates
Microsoft Word has made people’s lives so much easier. Gone are the days of using primitive methods of typing and building documents. Microsoft Word has a lot of usable features and customization options which allow its users to get their intended results when producing documents.
One of the good things about Microsoft Word is that it has templates which users can employ to easily make their documents. This article tries to lay down some tips on how Microsoft Word users can fully utilize the template feature of the program. Here are the useful tips.
-Using templates on the computer
There are several ways on how one can use templates in developing documents in Microsoft Word. One of the ways is by utilizing the different templates that are installed in one’s computer. When one installs the Microsoft Word in his computer, there are different templates which he can already utilize. To use these templates, one should go to the “File” tab on the uppermost part of the window. This can also be accessed by pressing the ALT key, holding it and pressing the letter F. When one is already in the File tab, he should then click the “New…” option. This will take him to several choices and a window will pop up on the right side of the screen. This window contains the “templates” section.
There are basically three options to choose from and one of them is entitled “On my computer…” When one clicks this option, a window will pop out containing 8 sub-sections of templates which he can choose from. For example, one is doing a professional memo, he can go to the “Memo” section and choose the template for a professional memo.
Select the text you would like to replace, and type your memo. Use styles such as Heading 1-3 and Body Text from the Styles and Formatting work pane from the Format menu. To save changes to this template for future use, on the File menu, click Save As. In the Save As Type box, choose Document Template (the filename extensions should change from .doc to .dot) and save the template. Next time you want to use the updated template, on the File menu, click New. In the New Document task pane, under Templates, click On my computer. In the Templates dialog, your updated template will appear on the General tab.
-Developing a new template
If one opts to build his own template for future use, he can do this by developing a template and saving it as a template. He can click the “save as” option and scroll down the different choices and choose “template.”
-Office online
One of the good things about Microsoft Word is that it offers a lot of updates and so many choices. If one is not satisfied with the built-in templates in the computer, he can always choose from the available templates on-line. He can do this by going to the “New…” section in the File tab and click “Templates on Office Online.” This will direct the user to the Office Online website and thousands of different templates would be available for him.
These are just some of the few tips on how to use Microsoft Office templates. The Word templates are indeed very useful for developing different documents and make the activity a lot more easier. << Previous Article || Next Article >>
