Tips on How to Use Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word is by far the most popular word processing program today. It is an indispensable tool for businesses and for everyday activities which involves production of documents.
Many people everyday are trying to learn the basics of using Microsoft Word. Children, adults and senior citizens are all into the learning process of using Microsoft Word. Some people may find it a little bit confusing at first, especially with all the icons and toolbars that come along with Microsoft Word but all it takes is a little bit of time and practice.
This article tries to lay down some tips on how people can use Microsoft Word more easily. Here are some tips:
1) Learn how to use toolbars
There are a lot of toolbars which can be activated and deactivated when using Microsoft Word. By my count, 20 toolbars are available for Microsoft Word users. These toolbars can be activated by going to the “View” tab. The tabs are the ones which are located at the uppermost left-side portion of the window. One will find “File,” “Edit,” Insert” etc…
The third tab from the left is the View tab and under this tab, one will find the toolbar activation and deactivation menu. One can also press the ALT button and the letter V simultaneously to go to the View tab. Toolbars for formatting, pictures, tables and others can be found here.
2) Learn the shortcuts
In using Microsoft Word, one can utilize the shortcut keys to be able to activate a function more easily. These shortcut keys are usually composed of combinations of different keys such as CTRL + B, which will make the selected or following words bold. CTRL + I will italicize the font, CTRL + U will underline them. To access the different tabs at the uppermost portion of the window, one should look at the underlined letter of the title of a certain menu, such as the letter T in the Tools tab and hit the ALT button simultaneously with the letter T. This will allow the user to get to the Tools tab without moving his cursor. Other important shortcut keys are CTRL + S for saving the document, CTRL + P to print the document, CTRL + Z to undo the last action, CTRL + Y to redo the last action, CTRL + X to cut the selected part of the document, CTRL + C to copy the selected part and CTRL + V to paste it.
3) Use Help
When one is stuck in a certain problem, he can always consult the Word help. Yes, there can be a lot of questions when using Microsoft Word but they made it sure that the users can navigate through the program by using the help feature. All one has to do is go to the help tab and click on the Microsoft Office Word help or one can simply press F1. One can search for certain topics in the help feature. One can also use the help of the cute Microsoft Assistants. There are several assistants to choose from and the most famous ones are the paperclip, the dog and the wizard.
These are just some practical tips in using Microsoft Word. One should try to click on the different features and try out what they can do with them. One will eventually realize that using Microsoft Word can be more fun and enjoyable. << Previous Article || Next Article >>
